Hi Reader, Today I want to peer pressure you into trying something that I’m obsessed with and it’s all thanks to my mom. (Thanks mom!) For as long as I can remember, anytime I was working on a giant pile of homework, which was basically every single night in high school, she would always bring me a hot mug of herbal tea. Usually lemon. And it was. The. Best. Thing. Ever. Somehow it always brought me comfort every single time. It was like the little thing to look forward to and enjoy amidst all the drudgery. (And why did they do that to us? I don’t remember 90% of what I learned in high school.) Anyway, the tea habit stuck. To this day, I have a cup of tea every single night. And it’s like this immediate signal to my brain that it’s time to relax. If you’re not a habitual tea drinker like me, will you consider giving it a try? What’s the worst that happens? I just think we all deserve to have something cozy and comforting at the end of a long day. It’s really the best. Rishi Tea just sent me their sampler gift box and I think it’s a great way to begin your tea journey to try a bunch and see what you like! I’ve been really impressed with their teas so far.
From Mama Knows IN THE RECIPE BOOK The Best Healthy Pumpkin SmoothieAnything I put in smoothie form I can almost guarantee my kids will give it a try so we make lots of smoothies here, even when it gets cooler! Since Teddy loves Ben’s pumpkin pie, I decided to try a pumpkin pie flavored smoothie. It’s easy on the sugar and comes with a good bit of protein and even some fiber! For hesitant kids I would go ahead and add a little whipped cream on top to make it more enticing – it won’t take away from the nutrition they’re getting in the smoothie!
IN THE RECIPE BOOK The Breakfast We've Been Eating All WeekI needed an easy dinner on Monday night and I hadn’t gone grocery shopping for the week yet, so I whipped up a batch of protein sheet pan pancakes. My kids loved these with mini chocolate chips and heated up a square in the microwave for breakfast every morning this week!

Hi Reader, I feel like as a dietitian I’ve been shouting about fiber from the mountaintops for the past 10 years, so I’m just a tad bit bitter that it’s just getting its time in the spotlight now. But, better late than never and all that jazz. 🤪 Even if your kid is having regular bowel movements, they still may need some more fiber in their diet. A GREAT goal is to serve a fruit or veggie 3 times a day, and whole grains, nuts, or beans, at least once a day. If you’re already getting that in,...
Hi Reader, I’ll be honest – Halloween has never been my favorite. Mostly I just wonder why it can’t be on a Friday or Saturday every year. I always feel TERRIBLE for our teachers the day after Halloween! Every year around this time, I get the same question: “How much candy should I let my kids have?” Here’s my very professional, very real answer: let them eat the candy. Trying to tightly control how much they eat usually backfires. It makes candy feel extra special and can lead to kids...
Hi Reader, If you’ve been seeing creatine everywhere lately — you’re not imagining it. Should you be taking it? Let’s talk about it. What it actually does: Helps you build/keep lean muscle when combined with strength training May slightly boost strength and workout performance May slightly speed up muscle recovery Why is this helpful to you? Muscle naturally declines with age and lower estrogen levels, which slows metabolism. Maintaining lean muscle helps keep your metabolism higher and your...
