This neighborhood thread was unexpectedly genius

Hi Reader,

I’ll admit it: one of my favorite forms of low-stakes entertainment is scrolling through my neighborhood Facebook group.

It’s ideal when you’ve got 5 minutes waiting on a kid somewhere, and I do actually pick up great intel. Who can repair your sprinklers, where does everyone go for plastic surgery, and what streets are randomly closed for construction.

And occasionally I get a first row seat to neighborhood drama that makes my own life feel extremely calm by comparison.

Last week I saw a thread that I thought was actually really great – the admin asked, “What’s something that you have bought, for under $100, that has been life changing?”

I was so curious to see what other people would say! I wanted to share a few things that stood out, and what I would personally add to the list.

  1. This roller for pet hair - people LOVE this thing.
  2. This thing so that you never drop your phone or anything else in the gap next to your seat in the car (WHY do they have to leave a phone-sized gap there?).
  3. I’ve never seen these before but they have over 12,000 5-star reviews!
  4. This is an $8 marriage saver right here!
  5. Multiple people said these are the best food storage containers they’ve ever had and tossed all their others.
  6. Lots of hype around adding AirTags to pet collars with this!
  7. I’m intrigued by this one because I do burn myself ALL the time.
  8. And this is one of those “boring but incredibly useful” purchases for your home.

Now what would I add? I restrained myself and only posted one item even though I wanted to post SO MANY!

I shared how we switched to these in our bathrooms and I’ll never go back. Someone else commented that they are great for communal bathrooms like college kids with roommates, and someone told me they love them because they don’t collect pet hair!

Here’s a few more that I would add to the list:

  1. For the car – because my kids used to accumulate so much trash before I got this.
  2. Because we all know lamps are far superior to overhead lights but I’m too lazy to turn them on and off – I got these and connected them to Alexa and set them to turn on at sunset and turn off at 10pm. I love it! (Also good for when you go out of town so it looks like someone is home!).
  3. Never thought I’d use this as much as I do! Bikes and balls and pool toys of course, but when your car tire is randomly low it’s life changing to not have to go to a gas station to fill it up!
  4. THE most affordable skincare item I’ve ever bought that has drastically changed my skin to be so smooth and clear.
  5. I re-buy these for myself every few years because they are perfect for around the house. Warm, soft and comfy with a hard sole = my favorite for slippers. I wear them every day!

What would you add?? I’d love to hear!

Homemade Queso on a Plate with Halved Avocado and Tortilla Chips

Hi Reader, There’s a type of behavior I have been seeing at school a lot this year that doesn’t get talked about enough. Probably because it’s uncomfortable, and probably because it’s often dismissed as “just how some people are.” A group of moms who bond by tearing other women down. Openly commenting on other moms’ bodies. Calling people ugly or fat. Mocking how someone parents, dresses, or exists — often with kids standing right there within earshot. That’s not confidence. That’s not being...

Kacie Barnes Standing In Front of Open Refridgerator

Hi Reader, Last week, I asked you to share your thoughts on me creating a talk or resources to help support conversations around weight and body image, and the response was overwhelming. I think it was the most replies I’ve ever gotten to a newsletter. Many of the stories shared broke my heart, and that’s exactly why I want to help with this topic. Every person deserves to feel confident and loved in their body, and to understand the value of nutrition and how it can help fuel your body. I...

Soup and Mac and Cheese Collage

Hi Reader, I’ve had a few conversations with moms lately about something that feels especially hard to get “right” – talking to our kids about weight, and how food relates to their body. And I shared a post on Instagram that resonated with a lot of you about what to do if your kid comes to you and says, “I’m fat.” (If you haven’t seen it you can read it on Instagram or Facebook.) I got a lot of great feedback from moms thanking me for talking about it openly and for helping them feel more...
