Open for breakfast ideas your kids will love

Hi Reader,

Mornings are… a lot.

Last week, my kids managed to spill so much milk at breakfast – multiple days in a row – that I briefly considered calling our insurance company to submit a dairy related flood claim.

And while I was on my hands and knees trying to mop up dairy carnage at 7 a.m., I thought, why don't I just give them straws and let them go at it? My floors are pretty clean.

(Side note: they are actually REALLY clean. I splurged on a robot mop-vac on Prime Day and it's the best best best. I keep stalking it to watch the price because it has radically changed my life – and it's finally on sale for $549.99 from $899.99!)

But in case you also have been having chaotic mornings, I wanted to share some of my favorite healthy breakfasts today that don't involve scrubbing milk off your baseboards.

Breakfasts From Mama Knows

Sheet Pan Pancakes

This recipe is amazing because it’s easy to prep ahead, freeze, and serve these anytime for a fast and protein-packed breakfast your kids will request again and again. I love to make it on a weekend and then freeze the extras for weekdays!

Cottage Cheese Egg Bites

I LOVE prepping a batch of these egg bites and warming a few up for breakfast in the morning. Emilia has been known to eat these on the walk to school, and I feel great knowing she's packing in some great protein and nutrients to fuel her day.

Cinnamon Roll Baked Oatmeal 🥣

Baked oatmeal for the win! It’s extra delicious, my kids prefer it over regular oatmeal, and I can pop it in the oven while we get ready for school. Or better yet – just serve as leftovers from the weekend!

Air Fryer Eggs 🥚

Hard boiled eggs…but without the actual boiling step. It’s quick, requires almost zero effort, and makes a great quick breakfast, snack, or protein in a lunchbox!

Healthy Pumpkin Pancakes 🥞

Ready for fall? Me too! These pumpkin pancakes are simple and delicious – be sure to make enough for yourself, too!

Advent Calendar Collage

Hi Reader, I feel like as a dietitian I’ve been shouting about fiber from the mountaintops for the past 10 years, so I’m just a tad bit bitter that it’s just getting its time in the spotlight now. But, better late than never and all that jazz. 🤪 Even if your kid is having regular bowel movements, they still may need some more fiber in their diet. A GREAT goal is to serve a fruit or veggie 3 times a day, and whole grains, nuts, or beans, at least once a day. If you’re already getting that in,...

Pumpkin Smoothie with Straw in Glass Cup with Candle in Background

Hi Reader, Today I want to peer pressure you into trying something that I’m obsessed with and it’s all thanks to my mom. (Thanks mom!) For as long as I can remember, anytime I was working on a giant pile of homework, which was basically every single night in high school, she would always bring me a hot mug of herbal tea. Usually lemon. And it was. The. Best. Thing. Ever. Somehow it always brought me comfort every single time. It was like the little thing to look forward to and enjoy amidst...

Collage of Non-Candy Halloween Treats on Amazon

Hi Reader, I’ll be honest – Halloween has never been my favorite. Mostly I just wonder why it can’t be on a Friday or Saturday every year. I always feel TERRIBLE for our teachers the day after Halloween! Every year around this time, I get the same question: “How much candy should I let my kids have?” Here’s my very professional, very real answer: let them eat the candy. Trying to tightly control how much they eat usually backfires. It makes candy feel extra special and can lead to kids...
