A thing that’s been on my mind

Hi Reader,

I bought Teddy a book earlier this month that I can’t stop thinking about and HAD to share with you, because it’s so good.

It’s called The Amazing Generation: Your Guide to Fun and Freedom in a Screen-Filled World by Jonathan Haidt. The reason I got it is actually pretty simple…I’m a grown adult and I don’t even like how my phone makes me feel most days.

I find it distracting, addictive, and honestly… it often leaves me feeling worse about myself. And if that’s true for me, with a fully developed brain and a lot of life experience, I can’t imagine how much harder it would be for a young person.

Even though Teddy doesn’t have a phone or social media yet, I wanted him to hear about it from someone who isn’t me — in a way that helps him understand why this stuff can mess with your head, not just that “Mom says it’s bad.”

What I love about this book is that it doesn’t shame kids. The goal is to help them be their most authentic and confident selves, and learn about how they can truly thrive without smartphones.

Plus, it has a ton of graphic novel sections and captivating images to make it more engaging for kids.

Teddy showed me this screen time calculator from the book, and yes it did absolutely freak me out!

If you have a tween or teen, I really think this is a book worth getting for them!

Snacks I Made for My Kids Last Week

  1. These no-bake cookie dough balls (Teddy devoured!)
  2. Banana chocolate chip muffins – Emilia ate them for both breakfast and snack 2 days in a row
  3. Berry yogurt smoothies
    • Ingredients
    • 2-2.5 cups plain yogurt
    • 1 cup berries (I used frozen strawberries and blueberries, defrosted)
    • 2-3 tsp honey
    • Splash of vanilla extract
    • Instructions
    • Add all ingredients to blender and blend! Makes 4 servings.
    • Note: You can use vanilla yogurt instead of plain, just omit the honey and vanilla
  4. Banana “pudding” – Mash 2 very ripe bananas in a medium bowl, add about 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt and 2 tbsp vanilla pudding mix. Stir well and let sit for about 30 minutes in the fridge, then serve! So much less sugar than traditional pudding but still has a dessert vibe to it. Serves 2.

Wishing you restful sleep,

Hi Reader, You might remember last year I shared that I was working on a book. If you’ve been wondering how that’s going — I wanted to give you an honest update. The short version: I’m not writing a book right now. And that wasn’t a quick or easy decision. I genuinely loved the idea of the book. I care so deeply about supporting parents — especially moms — and helping feeding kids feel less stressful. That’s always been the heart behind my work: helping you feel less alone and a little more...

Hi Reader, Protein is having a moment. Everything is now “high protein,” including coffee and water, and suddenly a lot of moms are wondering: Am I getting enough? Could I be doing too much? Will eating more protein help with weight loss? And what about my kids...are they getting enough? Let’s clear this up — no macro tracking or gram counting necessary! How much protein do moms actually need? Protein needs vary based on activity level, life stage, health status, and overall eating patterns,...

Clear Jar of Peanut Butter with a Spoon With Peanuts

Hi Reader, I’ll admit it: one of my favorite forms of low-stakes entertainment is scrolling through my neighborhood Facebook group. It’s ideal when you’ve got 5 minutes waiting on a kid somewhere, and I do actually pick up great intel. Who can repair your sprinklers, where does everyone go for plastic surgery, and what streets are randomly closed for construction. And occasionally I get a first row seat to neighborhood drama that makes my own life feel extremely calm by comparison. Last week...
