Hi Reader, You know what I’ve missed while my kids have been in school all year? I’ve missed the steady hum of my kids arguing with each other that I can hear from any part of the house. I’ve missed making food and cleaning up the kitchen around the clock. I’ve missed being asked, “can we go somewhere fun now” at 7:30 in the morning. Lucky me, I’m about to have ALL of that, and more! Okay you know I love my kids a ton. Summer is just a lot to manage. But so is May! So for the past few weeks I’ve tried to keep the newsletter content light and full of helpful and quick tips to make this busy time of year a little easier. I’d love to hear from you if there is a topic you’d like me to cover in an upcoming newsletter. Seed oils, ultra-processed foods and food dyes are a few topics I have on the docket. In the survey I also heard a lot of requests for picky eater help and meal planning/recipe content, so these are in my plans as well. If there’s anything else on your mind, hit reply and let me know! Summer Essentials to Stock Up On
Kids Entertainment Prep I’m all for telling my kids to go outside to play, but I can also admit that having a few engaging things that hold their interest will seriously extend the amount of time they play outside (or inside, for that matter!). Here are some of my favorites for extended independent time:
New This Week From Mama Knows IN THE RECIPE BOOK No Bake Fudgy BrowniesThey’ve quickly become one of those recipes I keep coming back to for everything from after-school snacks to an easy sweet treat to share. Teddy loves to grab one of these from the freezer before bed and they’re way healthier than traditional brownies!
ON THE BLOG Are Processed Meats Safe to Eat?I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about bacon, sausage and other processed meats and if they’re safe for kids (or anyone!) to eat. I did a deep dive to refresh this blog post and expand it from just talking about deli meat to discussing ALL types of processed meats.
I hope you’re having a great Memorial Day, celebrating and remembering those who have served our country. Hi Reader, Maycember, Mayhem, May-we-all-take-a-nap-now? I know you’re probably running around with your head barely attached to your body – so I just want to share a few snack box ideas with you to solve the “mooommmm I’m hungryyyy” problem while you’re running from one event to the next. Here’s some snack boxes I’ve packed, and a couple of my favorite breakfast smoothie recipes, too! Healthy and Filling Snackboxes I like to include some fiber + protein to keep them full. Beyond that,...
Hi Reader, One thing that kills me about a lot of kids’ vitamin marketing right now is how it convinces parents that normal kid struggles mean they’re missing something important. Your child is emotional? It’s nutrient deficiencies. Picky eater? Hidden hunger. Big feelings? Trouble focusing? This gummy will change everything. And while nutrient deficiencies absolutely can matter in some situations, a lot of these ads jump from reality: “a multivitamin may help fill some nutrition gaps” to...
Hi Reader, Last week I talked about why peptides and GLP-1s are being marketed like a quick fix—and why the reality is more nuanced. This week, I want to talk about something equally important: What actually impacts hunger, “food noise,” and weight before you ever consider medication. And honestly? These things matter even if you do eventually choose medication. Because if your body feels like it’s constantly fighting you…there’s usually a reason. And it’s not that you lack discipline, suck...
